Is BillDecoder.au free?
The bill analysis is free. Always. No hidden charges. We also offer a $29 Bill Rescue Pack for people who want a personalised step-by-step plan with pre-filled rebate applications, phone scripts, and a 90-day follow-up. But the analysis itself costs nothing.
What electricity retailers do you cover?
All Australian electricity retailers. Whether you are with AGL, Origin, EnergyAustralia, or any of 40+ other retailers, BillDecoder.au can read and analyse your bill.
How is this different from Energy Made Easy?
Energy Made Easy is the government's free comparison tool — it's excellent, and we link to it in every analysis. But it requires you to manually enter your tariff type, usage data, and NMI number. BillDecoder reads your bill for you. We also show you government rebates you might be eligible for, explain your bill in plain English, and give you specific actions tailored to your situation. We don't replace Energy Made Easy — we help you understand your bill first, then send you there to compare.
What states and territories are covered?
All of them — NSW, VIC, QLD, SA, WA, TAS, ACT, and NT. The analysis accounts for state-specific tariff structures, Default Market Offers, and Victorian Default Offers.
What file formats can I upload?
PDF, PNG, JPEG, and WebP files up to 12MB. You can upload the PDF from your retailer, a photo of a paper bill, or a screenshot.
How accurate is the analysis?
BillDecoder.au uses AI to read your bill and compare it against current market offers. Savings estimates are indicative. Before switching retailers, always check the plan details on their website or call them to confirm the rates.
What is the BillDecoder Index?
The BillDecoder Index is built from real electricity bill data shared by users who opt in. Your name and account details are never included — only pricing data is kept. It shows average costs, overpayment rates, and tariff breakdowns across Australian states.
Who can see the BillDecoder Index data?
Everyone. The Index shows combined averages — typical costs by state, common tariff types, and overpayment rates. No individual bill data is ever shown. You can view the Index anytime, whether or not you have contributed your own data.
