Medical Energy Rebate

$285 per year

Applied as a daily credit on your electricity bill. Embedded network customers receive $313.50.

This rebate is specifically for inability to self-regulate body temperature — not general medical conditions or medical equipment use. Your treating doctor must certify the condition on the official form.

Who is eligible

>Must hold an eligible concession card (Pensioner Concession Card, Health Care Card, or DVA Gold Card)

>A household member must have an inability to self-regulate body temperature due to a medical condition (e.g. Parkinson's disease, multiple sclerosis)

>Requires a signed form from a medical practitioner who has treated the patient for at least 3 months

How to apply

1.Download the Medical Energy Rebate application form from service.nsw.gov.au

2.Have your treating doctor complete the medical certificate section — they must have treated you for at least 3 months

3.Submit the completed form to your electricity retailer

4.The rebate is backdated to the date of your application

Common mistakes

The medical condition must specifically affect temperature self-regulation (e.g. Parkinson's disease, multiple sclerosis) — general medical conditions do not qualify

You need BOTH a concession card AND the medical certificate from a doctor who has treated you for at least 3 months

The rebate stacks with the Low Income Household Rebate — you can receive both ($570/year)

Combining with other rebates

Can be combined with the Low Income Household Rebate ($285 + $285 = $570/year). Can also be combined with the Family Energy Rebate.

Questions about Medical Energy Rebate

What medical conditions qualify for the Medical Energy Rebate?

Conditions that cause an inability to self-regulate body temperature, such as Parkinson's disease, multiple sclerosis, and certain other neurological conditions. Your treating doctor must have treated you for at least 3 months and certify this on the official form.

Can I get the Medical Energy Rebate and Low Income Household Rebate together?

Yes. These rebates stack, giving you up to $570 per year in total electricity rebates.

What if I'm in an embedded network?

Embedded network customers (apartment buildings, retirement villages, residential parks) receive $313.50 instead of $285. Apply through Service NSW rather than your embedded network operator.
