Common Questions

What electricity rebates are available in NSW?

NSW offers six main electricity rebates: Low Income Household Rebate ($285/year, or $313.50 for embedded network customers), Seniors Energy Rebate (up to $200/year), Family Energy Rebate (up to $180/year), Medical Energy Rebate ($285/year, or $313.50 for embedded network customers), Life Support Rebate (varies), and EAPA emergency vouchers ($50 each). Eligibility depends on your concession card, family situation, and medical needs.

How do I apply for the Low Income Household Rebate?

Call your electricity retailer and provide your Pensioner Concession Card, Health Care Card, or DVA Gold Card number. You can also apply through Service NSW on 13 77 88 or at service.nsw.gov.au.

Can I claim more than one electricity rebate?

Yes, some rebates can be combined. For example, you can receive the Low Income Household Rebate and the Family Energy Rebate together (though the Family rebate is capped at $20 when combined). However, you cannot receive both the Low Income Household Rebate and the Seniors Energy Rebate — it is one or the other.

Do electricity rebates apply automatically?

No. Most NSW electricity rebates must be claimed by contacting your retailer. They are not applied automatically even if you hold an eligible concession card. You need to call your retailer or apply through Service NSW.
